UGI Empowers the Next Generation of Skilled Professionals

In a landmark achievement towards strengthening industry-academia collaboration and advancing skill-based education, the Universal Group of Institutions (UGI), Lalru, proudly inaugurated India’s first OPPO Skills Centre established under the DRIIV, an initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and OPPO India, on 15th July 2026.

Established in collaboration with OPPO India, the Skills Centre is set to provide world-class, hands-on training in smartphone repair, maintenance, diagnostics, and advanced mobile technologies, preparing students for rewarding careers in the rapidly evolving electronics and mobile servicing industry.

The prestigious inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Krishna Kumar Gaur, Head – Industry Relations, DRIIV, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, and Mr. Rakesh Bhardwaj, Director – Public Affairs, OPPO India, along with the hon’ble management, faculty members, industry representatives and students of the Universal Group of Institutions.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome of the distinguished guests, followed by the formal inauguration of India’s First OPPO Skills Centre. The dignitaries toured the state-of-the-art facility, interacted with students, and appreciated the modern infrastructure and practical learning environment created to nurture industry-ready professionals.

Hon’ble Chairman of UGI, Dr. Gurpreet Singh, in his inspiring address, emphasised that skill-based education is the need of the hour and the cornerstone of a self-reliant India. He said that the establishment of India’s First OPPO Skills Centre at Universal Group of Institutions is a proud milestone that reflects the institution’s constant dedication to bridging the gap between academics and industry. He highlighted that through strategic collaborations under the DRIIV initiative and OPPO India, students will gain access to cutting-edge technology, industry-orientated training, and real-world learning experiences. Dr. Gurpreet Singh reaffirmed UGI’s vision of nurturing competent, innovative, and globally employable professionals while contributing meaningfully to the nation’s mission of Skill India and Viksit Bharat.

In his keynote address, Mr. Krishna Kumar Gaur emphasized the importance of industry-driven skill development in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat. He appreciated Universal Group of Institutions for taking the lead in establishing India’s first OPPO Skills Centre and for creating a platform that will empower youth through innovation, technology, and hands-on learning.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rakesh Bhardwaj stated that the launch of India’s First OPPO Skills Centre at Universal Group of Institutions marks a significant milestone in OPPO India’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce. He encouraged students to embrace practical learning, continuously upgrade their technical skills, and prepare themselves for emerging opportunities in the technology sector.

Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Vice President, Mrs. Kanwaljit Kaur, said, “The inauguration of India’s first OPPO Skills Centre at the Universal Group of Institutions is a proud milestone for our institution.
