App. Sci. Deptt. of UGI organised an industrial visit to G.G Chemical and pharmaceutical (P) Ltd. on 17th March 2015.
To learn about manufacturing process of isoxazole(an antibiotic).
The students of B.Tech 1st year programme from applied science department undertook an industrial visit to G.G Chemical and pharmaceutical (P) Ltd, Derabassi on 17th Mar, 2015.
Ms. Mamta from applied science supervised this industrial visit. G.G Chemical and pharmaceutical (P) Ltd is a manufacturing unit of isoxazole. The students learnt about the production process of isoxazole. They explained the technical and chemical process of manufacturing of isoxazole. Isoxazole, an azole, derivatives are found in some natural products, such as ibotenic acid, as well as a number of drugs, including a COX-2 inhibitor, and furoxan, a nitric oxide donor. Isoxazoles are useful isosteres of pyridine, and have been found to inhibit voltage-gated sodium channels to control pain, enable the construction of tetracycline antibiotic derivatives, and as treatments for depression. Students learnt about that Centrifugation is the building of metal structures by cutting, bending, and assembling processes. They use a large variety of reactors and reactor systems to improve the overall efficiency of various chemical manufacturing processes currently used in the Specialty Chemical industry. The supervisor of the production explained the process of Centrifugation. Centrifugation is a process which involves the use of the centrifugal force for the sedimentation of heterogeneous mixtures with a centrifuge, used in industry and in laboratory settings. This process is used to separate two immiscible liquids. They use 6-amino pencillin and chloramethyl isozole as raw material for this process.
He also told to them about different type of reactors used in this process like stainless steel reactor, glass line reactor and enzymatic reactor. This industrial visit enhanced the student’s knowledge about chemical processes involved in manufacturing of antibiotics.
Outcome: to know about the process of manufacturing process of isoxazole and different processes involved in it.
